Maes Rugby league win in the English capital!

Maesydderwen Comprehensive School Rugby League Cup coached by Ystrad rugby clubs very own Mr. Nathan Holsgrove.

Quarter Bound for Maes

Maesydderwen progressed through to the British Cup quarter final with a hard fought 38-34 victory over Tiffin School Kingston. After the 4 hour Journey Maes were slow to get into there stride especially playing on the smallest pitch know to man. Maes leaked 6 points within the first set of tackles, the torment continued with Tiffin pushing for the line with maes on numerous occasions stopping there opponent dead with ferocious defence in particular from Martyn Davies.
With Maes' great defence it was only a matter of time that Tiffin would spill the ball, when that time came Adam Green pounced and produced a fantastic try weaving through eight players before placing the ball between the sticks. Maes exchanged tries with Tiffin scoring a further two each but Maes' ability to pick great lines and off load in the tackle was a real joy to watch.

Half time – 18-16

Maes came out after half time like a different team scoring a further three tries from Luke Price to take his personal tally to four and perfectly executing a 45m field goal to take the score to 38-16 with ten minutes to go. Maes for some reason pressed the self destruct button through ill discipline and gifting four tries. This left for a tense finish with the score 38-34 and Tiffin continuing to press but again great Maes defence survived onslaught after onslaught resulting in a turn over which resulted in Maes leaving London being 38-34 winners. Stand Out players were Gavin Jones and Martyn in Defence and Luke Price scoring 30 points making it a day to remember from the boys in Black.

Cons - Luke Price (6)
